January 29-February 9, 2018

Whew, what an eventful two weeks. I loved meeting with all of my families during conferences. It was so fun to share the progress of my sweet Kinders. Unfortunately, as conferences ended on February 2nd, my body decided to give in to the flu. We have been focusing a lot on coughing into our elbows, keeping our hands out of our mouths (EVEN if we have a wiggly tooth!), and washing our hands. I was happy to return to school on Tuesday and we are all hoping to stay healthy for the remainder of the flu season. Now for our goings-on!

We read "Love, Splat" by Rob Scotten and completed a text to self writing project. Our Splats turned out SO cute!

We have been learning about Penguins this week and have been working on a penguin research project with our 5th grade buddies.

Our new author study for February is Kevin Henkes. We are loving reading his stories!

We are working on using 'hooks' in our narrative writing. What a tough concept, but per usual, our Kinders did a super job ! They could start their story with a sound, question, or feeling hook.

During conference week we built schema as we read nonfiction stories about Polar Bears. The blue sticky notes represent knowledge we already knew about polar bears and the orange represents new knowledge from our research.

After brainstorming ideas for our MLK mobiles, we hung them from our ceiling. They look awesome and are good daily reminders!
