September 25-29th, 2017

We had another awesome week in Kindergarten!

This week we learned all about community helpers- People who help others. Officer Bailey of the Scottsdale Police Department came to speak with us on Thursday. We also had Mrs. Klein from the Wonderland garden come to our classroom to kick off our garden lessons. We will go to the garden every week and a half or so! We are so excited!

We continued learning Daily 5 by going book shopping! Each child was able to choose 4 books from our classroom library to keep in their book bin. Whenever they have some free time, they may return and choose new books. We were super excited to read, which made my teacher heart so happy!

In writing we wrapped up our Writer's Workshop unit on 'Illustrators'. We loved sharing our stories on the screen! We learned about working independently and building our writing stamina. We added details like setting, feelings, and colors. Seeing children excited to write every day is awesome!

In Math we are working on number sense 0-10. We ran math centers for the first time this week! We are learning through hands-on experiences and are having so much fun doing so. As we learn about the numbers we are showing them on ten frames, tally marks, and are decomposing them as we go. A great activity to work on at home for number sense is Subitizing!  You can find a great subitizing song/video here!

To end the week we had our first Mystery Reader! The kinders had a blast reading with 'The Cat in the Hat'! We have many openings for Mystery Reader and we would love if you could join us!
