Virtual Learning Week 3

It is amazing how far these Kinderbabes have come since we began school. Although not an ideal learning situation for any of us, they have really risen to the challenge and are going with the flow. We have been working hard on muting and unmuting quickly, turning in homework digitally, and being respectful to others while online. It is also incredible to see their stamina begin to increase. We do SO MUCH during our 3 hours together and they all have been excellent at finding their materials and getting right to work.

We begin small reading groups next week, so we are so excited about that!

Here is just a snippet of things we did this week. While in-person I take SOOOO many pictures of the kids' work and of what we are doing in the classroom. While distance learning, it is easy for me to forget! :)

We learned about AU (like in August) and how they are so in love.....awwwwww.

We read Wherever You Are and did a fun Friday project to remind us to always show kindness with our hearts and hands.

This week in Writer's Workshop we focused on becoming illustrators. We read the wordless book "A Ball For Daisy" and thought about how we can make stories with illustrations.

Virtual Kindergarten Week #2

It is so interesting to see the improvement in stamina and computer knowledge (i.e. muting and unmuting microphones) after only one week of distance learning. We are surviving and making the best out of the situation! I love seeing my Kinderkids each morning. They truly brighten my day and help me to focus on the big picture instead of focusing on how hard this is on everyone. Parents have been so helpful in navigating through this with their children and we are settling in to a little routine. On to week #3!

Here are a few things we did this week:

What do you like to do that makes you special?

We read the book "The Invisible String" and talked about who our invisible strings connect us to. Such a great story!

We read the book "Giraffes Can't Dance" and talked about things we can't do yet, but want to learn to do. Building growth mindset!

Question of the day!

Week #1 of Online Learning

As we began school online it has definitely been a learning curve for all! These sweet kinders are having to adjust to looking at a screen all morning while having all of their materials prepared and ready. We will all adjust and get better at this and hopefully it will not be too much longer until we can begin in-person learning.

Our daily mantras, a note from Beth, and our schedule circles.

Beth the Bear brings a note to her Kinders every Friday!
First week of school poem:
Our share bears. Since I can only see 16 of my kinders at a time, these little guys with each child's name on them ensure that I call on everybody.

Back to School!

Wow, what an interesting summer it has been trying to prepare for the 2020-2021 school year. From learning new technologies, to setting up my classroom 'just in case', the summer has been full of new experiences.
After taking two years off of teaching to be home with Nils, I am so excited to be back in Kindergarten this year. Kindergarten is an adventure and I can't wait to share it with my 22 new little Sweeties!

My welcome bulletin board for 2020-2021!

Look for an update after our first week of virtual learning!

April 2-6, 2018

This week in reading we studied non-fiction texts about weather. Students loved learning about storms and it is so awesome to see them pick up non-fiction texts on their own during Daily 5 time!
We tied our reading into science this week and did 3 weather experiments- rain in a jar, thunderstorm in a box, and the class favorite- a tornado in a jar! I wish I had more pictures to share on this site, but all of them had my cuties in them! So parents, check out Shutterfly!

In math we wrapped up our unit on place value and students had fun using pool noodles to show tens and ones!

We are having so much fun reading Laura Numeroff books as part of April's author study!

In writing, we created the cutest text to self connection project about rainy days. I will have to remember to take pictures of the finished projects and post them next week. They turned out SO cute!

Happy April!

3/26-3/29

We had a fun week learning all about insects! We loved using our sensory bin to find magnet letters among bugs and dirt!

In math we began place value and used hands-on activities to realize that teen numbers are made up of 1 group of ten and some left over (ones). Mind blown! :)

We worked hard on writing this week. We created a bug thinking web and turned our simple words into complete sentences.

We also used the writing process to create a writing piece about what makes us happy. We made a sloppy copy, edited and revised with Mrs. Hilborn, and wrote our final draft! Check out how awesome they look in our hallway!

3/10-3/23

We have been so busy in Kindergarten. We have been celebrating Dr. Seuss, practicing subtraction, writing about opinions, and learning all about butterflies! Here are a few pictures, more to come!
